Exodus

EK-suh-duhs\ means a departure of people in large scale/group.

Limerick:

As the end times draw near
An exodus from the earth I fear
To planets far and wide
In galaxies that are a distant ride

The emigration of Israelites from Egypt reminds me of the word exodus, which, by the way, I didn't know the term until recently given the fact that I was once a Christian who have watched the movie, The Ten Commandments. I wonder how many would have known the said word while watching the film. Not many, I suppose!

Valetudinarian

\val-uh-too-din-AIR-ee-un; -tyoo-\ means a weak or sickly person, especially one morbidly concerned with his or her health.

I first encountered this word from one of Sherlock Holmes' stories. Though I haven't forgotten the word since I looked up its definition from a dictionary, I am including it here to share it to you. Hope you'll remember it too.

\HUH-guhr-muh-guhr\, and means a disorderly jumble; muddle; confusion; secrecy; concealment.

When politicians say 'no comment' to a particular issue, there is no doubt that they're just a bunch of hugger-mugger.

Defenestrate

\dee-FEN-uh-strayt\ means to throw (someone or something) out of a window. It's from the Latin: de: out of, with a downward motion implied and fenestra: window).

Defenestration of villains in action movies, local or hollywood, is one of its usual stunt scenes. Many viewers like it though.

Matutinal

Limerick:
Lest the Sun forget the day

Example: My friend, Vanessa Rea, used to take her matutinal walk-jog-walk-jog-walk, in that order, everyday. Wish I could do the same. Perhaps, I will...one day!

Empathy

EM-puh-thee\ and is the capability to share another being's emotions and feelings.

This word is so simple that many surely know its meaning. Though we could find a number of definitions of this word I chose the above one to emphasize that most of us apply this word to human beings only...not to any other beings like non-human animals, which, for me, degenerates its real meaning. Most fail to empathize with these animals but if we just imagine ourselves to be them, which are butchered for food, sliced for the purpose of science, used for our entertainment, etc., then empathy would have had a deeper meaning.

Zephyr

\ZEF-er\ means
.......a gentle, mild breeze.
............the west wind (literary)
.................any of various things of fine, light quality.

Zephyr, in ancient Greek zephyros, was the godly personification of the west wind.

Limerick:
Once there was a zephyr
Every time he blew he caused a stir

From east to west, and zenith to nadir.

The truth is, I first encountered this word, Zephyr, from my husband (well, he wasn't yet then). This is just one of his "netnames".

Oneiric

\oh-NY-rik\.... of, pertaining to, or suggestive of dreams; dreamy

Everyone seems to like oneiric images which he/she often times wants to be interpreted with the help of a book about dreams. I, too, was once fond of dream interpretations though I never put any weight to whatever meaning the book says. Hehe!

Erudite

AIR-yuh-dyt; -uh-dyt\, characterized by extensive reading or knowledge or is a learned person; scholarly.

Many are erudite, they may not just know the word to call for themselves. My best friend is an erudite, most of my friends are, too and I guess I qualify for this word myself...haha! I must be, otherwise Logofanum will be priestess-less. And among my teddy friends, Cheekie "the scholar" is the erudite. LOL!!

~LOGOFANUM~

Logofanum is a collection of words which I encountered before in my readings but have forgotten through time because of lack of association with something. Most of these words are also newly found and need to be remembered or rather worshiped at the Logofanum so that they may bless me with their presence in my memory (laughs). Posting them here keeps me, being the priestess of Logofanum, reminded of the duties and responsibilities that I am accountable for.

Logafanum aims at cleansing the minds of those who have the same plight as me, now and then...those who find it quite difficult to recall "never heard before" words. And a regular visitation at Logofanum gives one a sense of enchantment, a kind of power that quickens and hones memory/retention.
