Shivaree

Read as \SHIV-uh-ree\ which means...

1. A mock serenade with kettles, pans, horns, and other noisemakers given for a newly married couple.
2. An elaborate, noisy celebration.

Hundred years back, shivaree was so common that every marriage was often greeted with such merry-making though until now it is still quite celebrated in rural villages.
